About Mausum Sharma (Mousum)

Mausum Sharma, writing under the evocative pen name Mousum—meaning Messenger of Love in his native Assamese tongue—is an upcoming voice in contemporary literature.

Born on 18 April 1986 in the serene East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, India, Mausum is the son of Dr. Mrinmoy Kumar Sarma and Mrs. Sabita Sharma. His early education began at St. Anthony’s School, Shillong, followed by formative years at Sainik School, Goalpara, and later at B.S.F. Senior Secondary School. He went on to graduate in Computer Engineering from the elite Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, and an MBA in Marketing from Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management, Kolkata. He has since built a successful career in the IT industry, serving for over 15 years—ten of which have been with Tata Consultancy Services in Pune, Maharashtra.

Early Inspirations

He found his early inspiration during his days in the Military school, surrounded by peers from diverse backgrounds, which instilled in him the values of brotherhood and camaraderie.

Nestled amidst lush forests, his school environment nurtured a love for trekking, cycling, rock climbing, and photography. His adventurous spirit led him to attend a rock-climbing camp at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling.

Mausum is deeply inspired by the quote:
“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.”
This belief fuels his dream of sharing the world’s beauty through both his lens and his unconventional style of writing.

Literary Journey

His debut work, Alena: The King of My Teenage Heart, followed by Geeta: A Life with No Existence, forms part of his psychological trilogy “The King of My Teenage Heart.” Recently, he has ventured into the children mystery genre with Mystery of the Lake’s Illusion, the first installment of his dream series “Dr. Sarma Adventures.”

Mentorship and Encouragement

From childhood, his creativity was nurtured by his mother’s encouragement, leading to early publications of his poems and short stories in local newspapers such as The Meghalaya Guardian and The Sentinel.

His Asst. Headmaster Rev. Fr. P.D. Johny further fueled his thirst for learning by approving his articles in the school magazine “The Anthonian”

His teachers—Late Mrs. J. S. Baruah, Mr. P.K. Jena, Mr. Balbir Masih, and Late Mrs. Binapani Sharma—helped instill confidence and self-belief. Later, in Class XI, his English teacher Manjuri Biswas, along with Mr. J.P. Pandey and Late Mr. Udayan Sashmal, encouraged him to author a play that was selected for the school’s annual function.

Two towering figures also shaped his intellectual journey:

  • Late Shri Dimbeshwar Sarma, his grandfather, who introduced him to Shakespeare’s works to strengthen his vocabulary.
  • Late Shri Nishi Nath Changkakoti, former DGP of Assam, who challenged Mausum with literary puzzles hidden in books, rewarding him with new volumes each time he solved them.

Personal Life

After a stint in some of the most beautiful places of India, like Shillong, Nongpoh, Tura, Williamnagar, Guwahati, Goalpara, Kolkata and Ranchi, Mausum finally relocated to Pune, where he lives with his wife, Suryasika, his steadfast companion.

Currently, he is on an international assignment in Toronto, Canada, where he will reside for three years, continuing to balance his professional career with his literary pursuits.
